Robert Mielenhausen: A Life of Art A film by Peter Scheer/Pilotlight Films

“My art is a process of continual change and development. It speaks to a synthesis of intimate spaces and structural forms. The compositions are both literal and abstract, stepping outside the realms of trend and sensationalism. The work embraces a sense of past and present, stillness and motion, the remembered and forgotten.”

Robert Mielenhausen

Robert Mielenhausen’s work explores the convergence of photography and representational painting. Photography is the primary element of inspiration and a source for the artist’s work. Mielenhausen creates utilizing a mixed-media of textural materials, photography, and representational painting derived from his photographs of urban landscapes. As a graduate student at Adelphi University on Long Island he studied painting under Richard Vaux and was graduate assistant to Milton Goldstein in printmaking. Robert graduated from The New York Institute of Technology in New York earning a BFA and Adelphi University completing a Master’s Degree in Studio in Art in 1979. He went on to teach art and art history at Southampton High School retiring in 2006. The artist’s work resides in numerous private, corporate, and educational institutions collections. Placements include: Standard Motor Company, New York, Daytona College, Palm Coast, FL., Adelphi University, New York, The City of Palm Coast FL.
