Reflections

This recent body of work explores the compositional relationships of what one may perceive from multiple directions. I am interested in how light interacts with a glass surface, altering our perception of objects. Store front windows may reflect what is observed inside the window, as well as what exists behind and to the sides of the viewer. This simultaneous viewing poses the question, “Where is the viewer standing in relation to the subject?” The painters of Japan and China place the onlooker’s point of view within the work. This approach vastly reduces the use of linear perspective within the piece. My process deals with the layering of light and veils of transparencies used in combination with solid objects. Photographs taken on long walks in Manhattan are a source of inspiration for my art.
